CALL FOR SCORES
26th ASIAN COMPOSERS LEAGUE FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE
— ASIA PACIFIC FESTIVAL 2007 —
ACL Young Composers Competition
Each ACL member organisation is requested to submit ONE work by a young composer to represent their country/region. This work will be performed during the 26th ACL Festival. Certificates and cash prizes (totaling US$1000) will be awarded to the winning works, by an international jury.
Rules
- Each ACL member organisation will invite submissions from young composers within their country/region. From these submissions one score will be selected. This score (with performance parts, programme note, biography and photo portrait) will be sent the Festival organisers and MUST be RECEIVED by 1 October 2006.
- The selected composer must be UNDER 30 years of age, as of 1 October 2006.
- The work must be NO LONGER than 8 MINUTES in duration.
- The work must have been composed WITHIN THREE YEARS of the submission deadline (1 October 2006).
- The work must be for THREE OR MORE instruments, selected from the following (please note: only ONE of each instrument will be available): flute/piccolo, oboe/cor anglais, Bb/A clarinet, French horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, percussion, piano, harp, guitar/mandolin, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, voice. A traditional Asian or Asia-Pacific instrument may be included in the ensemble, but the provision of the specialist performer is the responsibility of the member organization.
- Scores must be accompanied by an ACL Young Composers Competition Registration Form (see below)
Other prizes
During the festival two further prizes for young composers may be awarded. The prize-winners are selected from works performed during the festival.
ACL Yoshiro Irino Prize
This will be awarded by an international jury to the most outstanding work in the festival by a young composer (under 35 years of age, as of 1 October 2006) from the host country (New Zealand).
Prof Hsu Tsang Houei Prize
This may be awarded by an international jury to the most outstanding work in the festival by a young composer from the host country (New Zealand), a work that uses (a) musical instrument(s) indigenous to the composer’s country or region, or utilizes indigenous instrumental or vocal techniques or language. The composer must be under 35 years of age, as of 1 October 2006.
